Grafton Farmers Market seeks public input

There may still be snow on the ground, but the Farmers Market Steering Committee is still busily planning for the harvest season, which will bring the first annual Grafton Farmers Market to the Town Common every Thursday starting July 9.

The Grafton Farmers Market, run under the sponsorship of the town Recreation Department, has three signed commitments from North Grafton’s Houlden Farms, Silvermine Farm of Sutton and Nourse Farm of Westborough and is in talks with multiple other local farms to bring fresh fruit and produce to the weekly event. The Boroughs Branch YMCA has also signed on as an official sponsor.

“We’re hoping to not only bring in seasonal produce but also to highlight the businesses in the Grafton Common area,” said Michael Urban, who chairs the committee. “We want to make this something special for the residents of Grafton.”

An informational meeting for the Grafton community is planned for Monday, Feb. 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the Evangelical Congregational Church, 30 Grafton Common. The committee is seeking feedback from the community as well as suggestions for vendors and activities during the market, which is expected to run July 9-Oct. 22, 2-6:30 p.m. (or dusk in the fall months).

A Web site, https://graftonfarmer.wordpress.com, has full information about plans for the market and will highlight upcoming events. For further information, please contact Michael Urban at urban_michael2002@yahoo.com.
